Orange fragrance oil (cosmetic grade) is a synthetic or blended fragrance oil designed to replicate the sweet, fresh, citrusy aroma of oranges. Unlike natural orange essential oil, which comes from cold-pressed orange peels, fragrance oil is created in a lab (or blended with natural isolates) to be longer-lasting, more stable, and consistent in scent.

It’s widely used in cosmetics, soaps, lotions, candles, and bath products to deliver a bright, energizing orange scent.

What is Orange Fragrance Oil

  • A cosmetic-grade fragrance, meaning it’s safe for use in skincare, haircare, and body products.
  • May be made from a blend of natural and synthetic aroma compounds.
  • Unlike essential oils, it doesn’t provide therapeutic plant benefits (purely for fragrance).

Properties

  • Aroma: Sweet, juicy, citrus-like, sometimes with light floral or tangy notes.
  • Color: Clear to pale yellow liquid.
  • Stability: More stable than orange essential oil (doesn’t oxidize or turn bitter quickly).
  • Solubility: Oil-soluble, not water-soluble (unless modified).

Cosmetic Applications

Skincare & Body Care

  • Soaps (cold process, melt & pour, glycerin-based).
  • Lotions & creams → uplifting citrus aroma.
  • Body butters & scrubs → pairs well with shea, cocoa, and mango butter.
  • Bath bombs & salts → adds refreshing scent.

Haircare

  • Adds a bright, fruity note to shampoos, conditioners, and masks.

Other Uses

  • Candles, wax melts, diffusers (if approved for dual use).
  • Perfumes & body sprays (as a top note).

Recommended Usage (Cosmetic Grade)

  • Soaps: 3–6% of total oils.
  • Lotions/creams: 0.5–2%.
  • Body sprays & perfumes: 2–5%.
  • Haircare: 0.5–2%.
👉 Always check IFRA guidelines from your supplier for safe maximum levels.

Safety & Precautions

  • Cosmetic grade = skin-safe when used correctly.
  • Always patch-test before use.
  • Store in a cool, dark place to maintain fragrance integrity.
  • Does not cause phototoxicity (unlike some citrus essential oils).
  • Not therapeutic → purely for fragrance.

  • ½cup sugar (or salt)
  • ¼cup coconut oil
  • 1tbsp shea butter (melted)

  • Mix well → exfoliates + leaves skin smooth and citrus-scented.
