Coconut Oil (Hot Pressed) is another form of coconut oil, but unlike the cold-pressed version, it’s extracted using heat and pressure. This makes it more stable and affordable, though slightly less nutrient-dense. It’s widely used in soaps, creams, hair oils, and balms where strong antioxidant retention is less critical.

Coconut Oil (Hot Pressed)

  • Extracted from dried coconut kernels (copra) using heat and mechanical pressing.
  • Usually refined, deodorized, and bleached (RBD) to remove odor and impurities.
  • Cosmetic grade → intended for external use in skincare, haircare, and soapmaking.

🔹 Key Components

  • Lauric acid (≈ 50%) → cleansing, antimicrobial.
  • Caprylic & capric acids → lightweight moisturization.
  • Myristic & palmitic acids → protective, add structure to formulations.
  • Lower levels of Vitamin E & polyphenols compared to cold-pressed oil.

🔹 Benefits

1. For Skin

  • Moisturizes & softens → prevents dryness and flakiness.
  • Protective barrier → shields against environmental dryness.
  • Neutral scent → blends easily without interfering with fragrances.

2. For Hair & Scalp

  • Adds shine and smoothness.
  • Coats hair shaft → reduces breakage.
  • Ideal as a base oil in hair oils and conditioners.

3. For Formulations

  • More cost-effective than cold-pressed coconut oil.
  • Adds hardness and creamy lather to soaps.
  • Works as a stable carrier oil for essential oils and fragrance oils.

🔹 Cosmetic Applications

  • Soaps → boost cleansing and rich lather.
  • Lotions & creams → adds body and emollience.
  • Lip balms & butters → smooth, non-greasy texture.
  • Hair oils & masks → lightweight nourishment.
  • Massage oils (neutral base for essential oils).

🔹 Usage Guidelines

  • Typical use rate: 5–100%
  • Lotions/creams: 3–10%
  • Balms & butters: 5–20%
  • Soaps: 15–30% (boosts cleansing/lather)
  • Hair oils: 10–50% blended with other oils
  • Melting point: 24–25°C (76°F) → solid at room temperature, melts on skin.

🔹 Safety & Storage

  • Non-toxic and safe for cosmetic use.
  • Less comedogenic than cold-pressed (better for acne-prone skin when refined).
  • Store in a cool, dry place, away from direct heat.
  • Shelf life: 2 years.
